One Day at a Time cast, producers, and fans (including Lin-Manuel Miranda) react to cancellation

'One Day at a Time' canceled after 3 seasons by Netflix

While thanking "the glorious showrunners" and "magnificent cast" of the One Day At a Time reboot as well the show's passionate fans for "the outpouring of love", Lear questioned Netflix's decision not to renew the critically praised series for a fourth season.

The modern-day remake of the beloved Norman Lear comedy followed a Cuban-American family led by a divorced, former military mom (Justina Machado), who was raising two teenagers - Elena (Isabella Gomez) and Alex (Marcel Ruiz) - with the help of her traditional Cuban mother Lydia (EGOT victor Rita Moreno).

The show's producer, Sony Pictures Television, is reportedly planning on shopping the series around at other outlets, in an attempt to find "One Day at a Time" a home somewhere else.

'This was a very hard decision and we're thankful to all the fans who've supported the series, our partners at Sony, and all the critics who embraced it. One Day at a Time is produced by Sony, which makes it a little more complicated, but E! One of the show's main characters was a lesbian teen named Elena (played by Isabella Gomez), and during the show's three season run, ODAAT featured an emotional coming out story and a non-binary love interest for Elena named Syd (played by Sheridan Pierce).
