‘Sopranos’ Prequel Gets Fall 2020 Release and Working Title ‘Newark’

Warner Bros Dates ‘Sopranos’ Prequel ‘Newark’ For Fall 2020

New Line has announced the title and release date for the upcoming prequel movie: the film, titled Newark, will hit theaters on September 25, 2020, according to Deadline.

In the Sopranos' finale, "Made in America", Tony is joined in the booth by his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) and his son A.J.

The release date and title has been revealed for the prequel of the hit HBO mafia series.

As previously reported, the film was originally had the working title of "The Many Saints of Newark" but that has now changed to just "Newark".

The Sopranos followed the life of Tony Soprano, a New Jersey mob boss as he dealt with personal and professional issues in his home and business.

As for the rest of the cast, Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, and John Magaro will all star.

"The movie will deal with the tensions between the blacks and whites at the time, and Tony Soprano will be part of this, but as a kid", said David Chase (writer) in a previous interview.

The cast for "Newark" includes Alesandro Nivola, who plays Dickie Moltisanti - a character often talked about but never seen in "The Sopranos" television series as he was Christopher Moltisanti's father and a mentor to Tony Soprano. Though the original series often employed flashbacks to this particular era in Newark history, it's unknown if any of the actors who portrayed younger versions of Soprano wiseguys will be reprising their roles for the film.

There is no word yet on when production may begin on The Many Saints of Newark.
