Rice handed first England call-up after switch from Ireland
Declan Rice has received his first England call-up just weeks after making the agonising decision to represent the country of his birth rather than the Republic of Ireland.
On Rice call-up: "We've tracked him for quite a while".
"There aren't many players of his age playing as well as he is in the Premier League".
Former Republic of Ireland worldwide Andy Reid has given his blessing to Declan Rice, telling talkSPORT (Hawksbee and Jacobs, 13/03, 13:30-14:00) that he hopes he does really well for England.
Southgate has chosen to leave out Lewis Dunk (Brighton), whose good form was rewarded with an England cap back in a friendly against the U.S. back in November, with Smalling missing out despite some excellent recent performances for Manchester United.
Heaton could however be a serious threat to Everton's Pickford as far as the England first-choice position goes as he has been in good form for Burnley this season. That said, there was never any guarantees made to him.

Rice, who can play as a centre back or in midfield, has been one of West Ham's most consistent players this season, earning rave reviews and comparisons with former club great Bobby Moore.
Such attributes led the Three Lions boss and former Football Association technical director Dan Ashworth to visit Rice before last summer's World Cup, when they made it clear they saw an worldwide future for him.
"His character and leadership qualities mean he fits in very well into the way that we work".
He is joined by fellow goalkeepers Jack Butland and Heaton, who earns a recall having been in impressive form for Burnley in 2019.
On Ward-Prowse: "We prove Prowsey - this recent spell is his best since we capped him and he's a world-class set-piece taker, but he's only recently got back in the Southampton team".
"We're pleased with what Jordan's done and we've got to help him through what was hopefully a blip at the weekend". "If we can provide hope and optimism through our performances then that's part of our responsibility as a team".
