Father, son charged in Michigan's body parts probe

Father and son from Rosemont accused of selling diseased body parts on black market

A father and son from Rosemont have been charged in a scheme that sold body parts on the black market from people who thought they were donating to science.

Black market body part brokering is a grizzly, big money reality CBS 2 has investigated for years. Those promises were allegedly made by Greene Sr. and his namesake.

A father and son have been federally charged in MI for allegedly selling body parts infected with diseases on the black market.

Donald Greene Sr. and Donald Greene, Jr., who were behind the now-shuttered Biological Resource Center of IL, allegedly sold parts - with full knowledge that they were unhealthy - without telling their buyers, according to local station WBBM.

The father was charged with wire fraud, his son with having knowledge of the scam but neglecting to report it.

The feds honed in on a key link to notorious Detroit body broker Arthur Rathburn. Also, a search warrant stated that an unidentified woman was told by the center that her son's tissues would be donated to colleges and research centers, but some of his body parts were sold for $5,000.

In the charges filed, United States attorneys repeatedly call it "a scheme to defraud customers of the Biological Resource Center of IL".

The center, instead of donating the bodies, preserved them till they could arrange for buyers for the dismembered parts - some of which reportedly sold for up to $100,000.

The documents say that at least one specimen was sold to Detroit Medical Center's sport's medicine department. What is illegal is to knowingly sell remains that tested for infectious diseases, like what was allegedly done by the Greenes from 2008 to 2014. Investigators said he regularly provided body parts to medical associations for various seminars but didn't tell them that the parts came from people with infectious diseases. "This fact was concealed from DMC by Donald A. Green Sr.'s scheme to defraud".

CBS 2 was not able to reach the Greenes for comment.

According to M Live, the U.S. Attorney's Office also said in court documents that Green Sr.
