"Police officers have to deal with so much, so many kinds of things, but I can tell you that this is the kind of incident that they don't see very often", Potts said.

"We feel confident saying that the suspect threw the child off of the third floor", Potts told CNN.

A Gofundme page has been set up by Noah Hanneman, who says he is a friend of the family.

'A monster of a man threw him from a 3rd floor balcony at the mall, he is fighting to stay with us every second'. A picture was included of the boy on the original post but an update on the page states, "We have removed his picture as there have been multiple people trying to copy this GoFundMe page and the family is still requesting privacy and has elected at this point not to share photos at this time". He said she was screaming, "Everybody pray, everybody pray".

The Chicago Tribune reports that Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, of Minneapolis, has been arrested on a suspicion of attempted homicide charge after witnesses to the attack identified the man. Aranda is supposedly banned from the mall, but somehow entered and randomly attacked the innocent boy.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis with serious injuries.

A five-year old boy was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after police said a man threw him from a balcony on the third floor. "Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" witness Brian Johnson said to WCCO when describing the scene. Police credited a concerned bystander for chasing the suspect, and the Mall security for tracking him to the transportation station where he was apprehended. He could be formally charged as early as Monday.

'The child did suffer significant injuries, ' he said. Aranda also held previous convictions for obstruction of the legal process/interfering with a peace officer, fifth-degree assault, trespassing and damage to property.

Court records show he'd been banned from the mall in the past and was convicted on misdemeanor charges in two incidents back in 2015.

According to court records, the suspect has been previously barred from the Mall of America. The complaint says Aranda approached a woman who was waiting for the restaurant to open and asked her to buy him something. In another, he allegedly threw a glass at a woman at a mall restaurant.
