Facebook outage: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp back online

Facebook down for some users

Around 2.7 billion people use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger each month, with two billion using at least one of those apps every day, but it is unclear how many made use of the payment features in Messenger.

In January, the Instagram app crashed while WhatsApp users worldwide were unable to send or receive messages.

Facebook has said it has restored services on Sunday after some users were unable to access its social networking site, photo-sharing network Instagram and messaging app WhatsApp.

DownDetector's live outage map showed that users in Europe and Asia were mainly affected.

A Facebook spokesman did not elaborate about the cause, and only apologized for the "inconvenience". Dean Miller tweeted from NY. A Facebook representative told the media that prior today, a few people may have experienced difficulty interfacing with the group of applications. The issue impacts Facebook's mobile apps and websites.

Instagram, facebook and WhatsApp are down.

The downtime was from 11:30 to 14:50 BST, before Facebook was able to resolve the connection issues.

"While you won't be able to exchange money with friends and family, you'll still be able to complete other transactions through Facebook, such as making donations to charitable organisations".

DownDetector.com, a website which tracks online service outages, lists tens of thousands of reports from users confirming the sites are down in their area.
