Guthrie rose to the challenge of helping her co-anchor Hoda Kotb reveal the happy news that Kotb has adopted her second child, Hope Catherine Kotb, to the complete surprise of their Today co-workers, and of course to millions of viewers at home.

Kotb said: "She was literally marching around saying, 'I'm a big sister!' " - so much so that "she did try to crawl into [Hope's] bassinet". "In your life, you think that maybe you've gotten what you deserve".

"You hope, you pray and you dream about things, and we thought about Hope", she explained of her daughter's name, adding she chose Catherine after her best friend's daughter.

Along with having the mom of two on by phone this morning, TODAY shared some pics of the TV personality and her family (like the one at the top of this post), and also put together a couple of adorable video segments on the adoption and the new baby.

Hope Catherine joins big sister Haley Joy, now 2 years old, whom Kotb adopted after a battle with breast cancer left her unable to conceive. In that moment.my heart just grew 10 times.

Kotb said she and her longtime partner, Joel Schiffman, were there when the baby was born. "It's wonderful. I can't believe it's happening!" "Joel and I were standing there when they hand you the baby", she recalled. "Sometimes in your life, things just don't work out for whatever reason, so you say, 'Well, I wasn't meant to have that.' But it was really hard to come to terms with it".

There have been hints that Hoda was expanding her family. "It felt nearly selfish", Kotb explained. "Do you have something to tell us?"
